South Dakota’s inaugural pheasant season opened on Thursday, October 30th, 1919 in Spink County. Dustin’s piece titled “The Opener” commemorates the start of a hunting season that has influenced our state’s culture, habitat, and economy. 2019 marks the 100th year of an event that most South Dakota residents hold dear to their hearts. The memories created every year leave us telling stories to future generations so we can continue to pass on this great tradition!
